[ARCHIVED] Dedication of basketball and skating art projects at Pavillion Park is June 8

Liberty Lake basketball court and skate park at Pavillion Park

An official dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 8, at Liberty Lake’s Pavillion Park to commemorate the recently added art projects at the basketball court and skate park as well as a set of newly donated backboards.  The public is invited to the ceremony, which will start at 11 a.m. that Saturday near the park’s main parking area at 727 N. Molter Road.

In projects that were supported through the city’s Parks and Arts Commission, artist Danielle Davis painted a mural titled “We Got This” to the double-court basketball site last August and September, and artist Joshua Thomas of Lejit Creative produced artwork for the skate area during September and October.  Plus, Hoopfest – Hooptown USA donated new backboards for the four basketball poles.

Davis and Thomas as well as representation from Hoopfest (including Hoopfest Board member Rob Hartman of Liberty Lake) are expected to join city festivals for the dedication event.

Among the activities that morning:  Members of the Liberty Lake Police Department and the Spokane Valley Fire Department will face off on a 3-on-3 basketball game on the recently painted court.  The morning's lineup will also include a free throw competition for children.

Parks and Arts Commission chair Nancy Hill said:   “We want to encourage the youths of Liberty Lake to enjoy outdoor activities.  The art enhances the basketball courts and skate park, creating a fun, vibrant atmosphere through the functional art.”

Commission member Laura Franks added: “These will be landmarks in our park for years to come.  As a commission, we have enjoyed seeing the community engage with and support the artists, as well as the excitement around the final products.  We are excited to dedicate these unique projects.”
