[ARCHIVED] Residents have helped choose the names for the city's snowplows!

Liberty Lake snowplows

You can now call them “The Plows with Snow Names.”

During the Liberty Lake City Council meeting of Oct. 18, names were selected for the city’s four-vehicle fleet of snowplows, using suggestions that were collected by the public.  About 20 names for the snowplows had been provided on slips of paper by children, parents, and others during the city library’s Touch A Truck event that was held back on July 15.

The collection of publicly proposed names from July were placed into a plastic bucket for the Oct. 18 council meeting, then were randomly pulled out and announced at the podium microphone by Trent Kosanke, the 9-year-old son of city streets lead Derek Kosanke.

For the 2022-23 winter season, the city’s grader will be known as “Big Boy”, one of the city’s loaders will be named “McPlow”, another loader will be known as “Thing 2” and the city’s freightliner will be called “Ice Queen.”

Each name will be applied to signs that city residents will be able to see when the plows begin their streetside duties this winter.

This is the first time the city’s snowplows have ever been given names.  Plans call for the public engagement process to be done again next year, allowing the area residents to come up with new names for the four plows.
