Recognizing the beneficial activities of local Girl Scouts programs, the Liberty Lake City Council authorized a city proclamation during its Oct. 18 meeting recognizing Oct. 11, 2022, as International Day of the Girl in the city of Liberty Lake. Area Girl Scouts and their leaders from Troop 2107, Troop 2141, and Troop 2255 were on hand for the vote, as was Brian Newberry, CEO of the Girls Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho.
The 16 Girl Scouts in attendance also led the Pledge of Allegiance for the City Council's Oct. 18 regular meeting at City Hall.
The city's proclamation specifically honors the contributions that Girls Scouts has done to emphasize public service, civic engagement, education, leadership, and a sense of community among girls for more than a century. The proclamation also acknowledges the decade anniversary since the United Nations adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare October 11 as International Day of the Girl, recognizing girls' rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.
