Jed Spencer has been appointed as the newest member of the seven-person Liberty Lake City Council. The council voted to approve his appointment following interviews during the group’s regular meeting on Tuesday, June 7.
Spencer works as a vice president and vendor relations coordinator at NBS Promos in Liberty Lake. He is a 1999 graduate of Central Valley High School and attended Brigham Young University-Idaho, where he earned his A.A. degree as well as his B.S. degree in business management.
The newest addition to the Liberty Lake City Council is filling the unexpired term of former council member Jamie Baird, who had been elected to the Position 4 seat last November. Baird served on the City Council for four months until leaving the group following its May 3 meeting due to a family move to North Carolina. Spencer’s current term will continue through the certification of the November 2023 general election.
Spencer was one of five Liberty Lake residents who applied for the vacant position on the council. The other applicants, who each responded to 15 minutes of questions from the city council and mayor on Tuesday night, were Mike Behary, Linda Marie Ball, Keith Kopelson, and Mike Kennedy.
During his interview session with the other council members, Spencer said: "I really enjoy the community engagement part of things, just talking with the people and finding what does the community want." He added that he feels two of the most important priorities for Liberty Lake are bringing in the right businesses that can help sustain the area's growth, and providing support for law enforcement to keep the city safe.
This was Spencer’s second time applying for a vacancy on the Liberty Lake City Council, after vying earlier this year for the Position 6 opening that was eventually filled by Tom Sahlberg.
