[ARCHIVED] Grinding and Overlay of the Harvard Road Bridge over I-90

LIBERTY LAKE – On 9/30/19 work began on a project to remove asphalt and install a new overlay on the road surface  between Appleway Ave and the Mission Roundabout on Harvard Road.  Commonly this is called the Harvard Road bridge over I-90.

The project is scheduled to last 20 weekdays and be complete prior to the end of October if the weather cooperates.   The project allows for nightly lane closures along Harvard Road between 8 PM and 5 AM.   During that period travelers can expect short delays while one lane traffic goes across the bridge through the use of flaggers.

The project also allows for 4 total closures of the bridge.  These closures will be sprinkled throughout the project duration.  During these closures the Harvard roadway will be completely closed from the southbound side of the mission roundabout to the intersection at Appleway Ave south of the bridge.  A detour will be signed to divert traffic to Barker Road.  The stateline intersection off of Appleway is also another detour option.  Message signs on either side of the bridge and the city’s message board will give 24 hours’ notice that a closure is anticipated.

The road surfacing is one step of a multi phased approach to reduce congestion on Appleway Avenue and Liberty Lake Road.  Design work is almost complete for a project to widen the Harvard Bridge over I-90 to three lanes.  Construction on that project will start in 2020.
