[ARCHIVED] Former Mayor Shane Brickner, 1975-2025

Shane Brickner

The City of Liberty Lake's staff is mourning the passing of former Mayor Shane Brickner.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, Shane passed away on November 8, 2025, at the age of 50 due to natural causes and cardiac arrest. Born on March 10, 1975, in Spokane, Washington, Shane lived a life defined by service, faith, adventure, and deep devotion to his family and community.
Shane’s family and circle of friends were always at the heart of his life. He loved deeply and cherished every moment spent with those he held dear. He is survived by his three children, his three grandchildren, his parents, his brother and sister, and his devoted wife. He was also preceded in death by a brother, whose memory remains cherished by the family.
Guided by his religious and spiritual beliefs, Shane’s faith shaped his actions and relationships throughout his life. He worked in the medical industries for several years, always driven by a passion for protecting, caring for, and serving others.
Shane’s commitment to service was evident in his 15 years as a volunteer police officer, beginning as a reserve officer for Liberty Lake on June 3, 2006, and serving until December 31, 2019. He joined the regional SWAT team in 2014 and remained on the team until 2021. Shane received numerous awards and recognitions, including Reserve Officer of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.
His dedication to his community extended into public service, where he served as mayor of Liberty Lake throughout 2020 -- a role he considered his favorite career accomplishment. Prior to that, he served as a City Council member for eight years starting in 2012, and as mayor pro tem during his second four-year term. He was also honored with the Everyday Heroes Award from the Pacific Northwest Kiwanis.
Shane was passionate about helping others, whether through law enforcement, running grief share programs, or speaking about grief to various groups. He had an incredibly adventurous heart, loved to live big, and embraced life on the edge; he had no fear. In recent years, he traveled far and wide, checking things off his bucket list and filling his “adventure cup.”
A celebration of Shane’s life will be announced soon. His legacy of service, love, and adventure will live on in all who knew him.
