[ARCHIVED] Council adopts Wildfire Awareness Month proclamation for month of May

City Council, mayor, and SVFD members with proclamation

The Liberty Lake City Council on May 7 endorsed a proclamation to designate May as Wildfire Awareness Month in the city of Liberty Lake.  Members of the Spokane Valley Fire Department (Chief Frank Soto Jr., assistant fire marshal Bill Clifford, and community risk reduction specialist Caroline Kusher) were on hand to join members of the City Council and the mayor for a group photo following the Council's vote.

The text of the proclamation reads:

Whereas, wildfire seasons have become longer and more destructive, which threatens communities throughout Washington; and

Whereas, individuals and communities work together to build solutions to coexist with wildfire; and

Whereas, communities across Washington are creating pathways to adapt, prepare, and recover from wildfire; and

Whereas, individuals are encouraged to help reduce the risk of wildfire while recreating outdoors; and

Whereas, when we come together as neighbors, we can reduce the risk wildfire poses to our properties, homes, and communities; and

Whereas, we all share the responsibility of preventing wildland fires while building community resilience;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That May 2024 be designated as Wildfire Awareness Month throughout this city, and I urge all the people of Liberty Lake to join in this special observance.

Dated this 7th day of May, 2024.

Cris Kaminskas, Mayor
