Welcome to the Library

Liberty Lake Municipal Library is the realization of a dream of the Friends of the Library Community Group which formed shortly after the 2001 incorporation of the City of Liberty Lake, Washington. Started in a basement, the Friends obtained donated space from the Greenstone Corporation in its Liberty Square Building Headquarters. Friends and dedicated volunteers collected books and organized a community library that opened in 2001. In 2002, the Friends deeded the library to the City at which time it became a Municipal Library and a department of the City of Liberty Lake. Liberty Lake Municipal Library's mission is to enrich and advance the intellectual, cultural and creative vitality of our extended community by establishing and maintaining avenues to information resources that support these interests, delivering personal service in a fast, courteous, and knowledgeable manner. The Library is located at 23123 E Mission Ave. in Liberty Lake.

20 Items may be checked out at a time.  Of those items, a limit of 5 each may be movies, magazines, music or audiobooks. 2 may be 14 day books.

Report lost or stolen cards promptly.

Parents may use the cards of their minor children under the age of 13 and inquire about their accounts. At 13 years of age, the minor must grant permission for access.

ACCEPTANCE OF A LIBRARY CARD INDICATES THAT YOU ARE ASSUMING RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINES ON LATE RETURNS AND CHARGES FOR LOST OR DAMAGED ITEMS CHECKED OUT ON YOUR CARD.

Reciprocal Agreement with Spokane County Library District

A reciprocal borrowing agreement between the City of Liberty Lake and the Spokane County Library District has required some changes in Library Policy.

All Liberty Lake City residents are eligible for a CIN card that entitles them to use/request any item in the CIN catalog except the subscription databases of other CIN libraries.

All Liberty Lake City residents may also obtain a County library card at no cost, but are not entitled to use the County Library's
subscription databases or benefit from agreements made by SCLD with other libraries.

Spokane County Library District patrons may obtain a free orange Liberty Lake Municipal Library card. As per the agreement, SCLD patrons will no longer be able to use LLML's Washington Anytime Library Overdrive or OneClick Digital service, but can get the same service through SCLD.

Renewals

Renewal of materials may be done in person at the library, on the library's website, over the phone, or by email. Please include your name and library card number on email communication.

Children's Cards

Minors between the ages of 5 and 17 years of age may have their own cards but must have parental permission. Adults who sign for a minor must be a parent, close relative, or a legal guardian.

Unattended Children

Neither the library nor programming offered by the library for children is intended to take the place of the care and supervision of a parent or other caregiver.

A child (a minor 8 years old or younger) who appears to be unaccompanied by an adult or caregiver of at least 15 years of age after a period of ten minutes in the library will be considered unattended.

If no parent or caregiver is in the immediate vicinity, the staff will notify local law enforcement.

Food Policy

Patrons may bring non-alcoholic beverages into the library as long as they are in secure, covered containers. Food may be brought in at the discretion of the Director.

Toddlers' "quiet snacks" administered by parents/caregivers are exempt from requiring permission.

Neither food nor beverages may ever be used while at the computers, even if the patron is only observing.

Clothing Policy

Appropriate attire for patrons of all ages shall include shirts and shoes or sandals. Bathing suits shall not be considered adequate attire.

Patron Conduct

In order to provide the best possible experience for all those visiting or working at the Liberty Lake Municipal Library, patrons are requested to refrain from the following:

  • Use of cell phones except in designated areas.
  • Disruptive or disturbing behaviors as well as inappropriate personal displays of affection.
  • Removal of Library materials without proper procedure or the mutilating or defacing of library materials, furniture, or equipment.
  • Smoking or the use of smokeless tobacco, possession of beverages containing alcohol, use of illegal drugs.
  • Use of personal photographic equipment without prior permission from Library staff.  This applies to cameras and phone cameras.
  • Posting of notices on library windows or the Community Bulletin Board without prior permission from the Director or professional staff.
  • Use of skateboards or roller skates (roller blades, shoes with rollers on them, etc.) inside the library.
  • Running, loud talking, or crying. Staff will be happy to bring your items to you outside if your child is crying.
  • No pets, unless by special permission, except Service Dogs.

Staff Responsibility

When staff members observe a patron in violation of the preceding standards, they are instructed to approach that patron privately and inform him/her that he/she is not in compliance.  This will be the only warning given.  If this behavior or others like it continue, the patron will be asked to leave.  Any abuse or threats against staff in the performance of their duty will result in the notification of law enforcement.

Patron Rights

Patrons who have been asked to leave the library may return the next day with full privileges.  But if that patron is asked to leave three times in a year, use of facilities and borrowing privileges at the library will be revoked.  At that time, the patron will be required to petition the Library Board for reinstatement to library privileges.

If a patron believes him or herself wrongly accused of violating the Patron Behavior Policy, he/she may petition the Library Board; whereupon a meeting of the full board, the director, staff, and a representative from the city will hear the patron and any witnesses the patron desires to bring forward.  The decision of the Library Board may be appealed by the Liberty Lake City Council.  If a patron believes that any aspect of the Patron Behavior Policy is inappropriate, he/she may petition the Library Board and, if not satisfied with the results, the Liberty Lake City Council.
